About Parish.....

Fermai a village situated 25 kilometres away from Mangalore, is where the church dedicated to St. Antony of Padua is situated.  Omzoor, Neermarga and Kelrai are its neighbouring parishes.

Fermai was initially part of Holy Family Church, Omzoor. Fr L. A. Cutinho of Omzoor (1973-1976) was requested by the people of Fermai to build a chapel there. Mr Eugene Cutinho intended to donate some land for the chapel with a condition that the chapel be built first and then to start the work on the cemetery. This did not materialize. In 1997 Fr Andrew D’Souza, the present parish priest of Omzoor, took up the idea again and obtained 2 acres of free land from Mr Francis Cutinho and another 0.14 acres from his neighbour at Fermai and the work was begun in 1998. The chapel was officially erected in 1999.

Fr Andrew purchased 2 ½ acres of land at Bondanthila from a Catholic who has donated 1 acre of land to the Bondanthila Higher Primary School. Fr Andrew put up a new block to the school at Bondanthila. Bondanthila is close to Fermai and the people of Bondanthila attend the services at Fermai.

The chapel was raised to the status of parish on 20 May 2004. Fr Andrew has built a presbytery cum hall at the basement and a church above it.

  Parish Priest Speaks...

A website of any Parish has much to do with the life of that Parish. I am happy as we launch a website for our Parish, St Antony Church - Fermai. It will be of much use for the Parishioners who are both near and far, so also for many others to get instant and first-hand information about important events going on in the life of the Parish.  As I thank those who designed the website I wish all the best for those who work for it. May our Patron St Antony Pray for us all for divine blessings.
